Electing reliable partners who believe in the promise of public education is critical to maintaining the excellence we want for our children. We’ve been fortunate to have Laurie Pryor representing our district in St. Paul, a longtime education advocate and chair of the Education Policy Committee, and her retirement leaves some big shoes to fill.
In my opinion, Alex Falconer is the right person to continue Laurie’s legacy of fighting for public education. Alex’s children grew up in public schools in 49A, and he devoted his time to the schools as a coach of multiple teams. He’s keenly aware of the financial pressures facing public school districts, pressures that have only magnified in recent years with inflation routinely outstripping state funding.
Public education is one of the great American institutions, if not the greatest, and I’m lucky to be able to send my kids to the best public schools in the state. Our communities take great pride in our schools, as well as our tradition of supporting our teachers and providing the very best education for our kids.
We need a representative who will fight for public education, push back against voucher programs that redirect funds away from our schools, support teachers, and collaborate with colleagues around the state to ensure public schools everywhere have the resources they need to prepare our kids for the future.
I support Alex Falconer for 49A, and I urge all my neighbors to get out, vote on Nov. 5, and keep public education a top priority in Minnesota. Lastly, while I am a Minnetonka School Board member, this message reflects my personal opinion and is not a school board endorsement of any candidate.
Dan Olson, Minnetonka
