A body matching the description of 11-year-old Mohamed Mohamed, a non-verbal autistic boy who went missing earlier Sunday, was recovered from a pond near his home on Cardiff Lane around 9:30 p.m., according to a social media post by Eden Prairie police.
Mohamed had been missing since the afternoon, prompting a large search involving local authorities, who deployed K-9 units, drones, and a Minnesota State Patrol helicopter. After news of his disappearance spread on social media, residents and community members joined the search. On the Eden Prairie Moms Facebook page, people in the Anderson Lakes neighborhood, where the boy disappeared, were asked to light up their homes and check their yards.
The Eden Prairie Police Department is conducting a joint investigation with the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Water Patrol and the Hennepin County Medical Examiner.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the friends and family of Mohamed during this incredibly difficult time,” the police said in the post. “We would also like to thank everyone who participated in the search efforts.”
