“Strengthening Our Community” is the theme of the inaugural Union Week for the Eden Prairie Education Association (EPEA) and its counterpart, the Eden Prairie Preschool Education Association (EPPEA). Eden Prairie High School’s Science Olympiad team placed third in March at the State Tournament. The EPHS team won regionals but was unable to defend its state victory from last year. Wayzata ended up taking first place, followed closely by Mounds View. Science Olympiad is a rigorous competition that pits students against a variety of scientific challenges. There are 23 different events covering a broad range of scientific disciplines. These include standard subjects such as Anatomy and Physiology, Astronomy, and Chemistry Lab, to more adventurous events such as Codebusters, Ping Pong Parachute, and Forensics. Bus transportation will be free for all Eden Prairie School District students beginning in the fall of 2022. District officials announced this change during the March 28 school board meeting. Currently, students who live within two miles of their school need to pay for busing. The existing rate is $175 per student with a family cap of $295. The new policy will remove all distance requirements and allow any Eden Prairie student to ride for free. Families have not always had to pay for student transportation. The Eden Prairie Local News (EPLN) has hired Isaac Kerry as its education reporter. Isaac primarily covers the Eden Prairie School District. But, he will also occasionally write stories about other schools in Eden Prairie, such as The International School of Minnesota, Hennepin Technical College, and PiM Arts High School. He moved here in 2019 with his wife and two daughters. They love the community so far and look forward to exploring it more in a pandemic-free world.
