Longtime Eden Prairie resident Arlene Mary Brown died on April 28 at Hope Hospice in Bonita Springs, Florida. She loved being in Florida’s warm weather during the winter months, but Eden Prairie has always been her home. Arlene loved her family and friends; spending time at the family cabin; puttering in the yard (especially the flowers — her favorite were lilacs); seeing plays at the Guthrie; listening to Christian singers and groups who performed in the Gaither Concerts; playing cards; and enjoying holidays with the family. Eden Prairie-based C.H. Robinson named Dave Bozeman its new chief executive officer, effective June 26. The transport and logistics company made the announcement in a media release on Tuesday. Bozeman, who also has been appointed to the company’s board of directors, will succeed interim CEO Scott Anderson. Anderson became interim CEO in January following the resignation of former CEO Bob Biesterfeld, who had been in that role since May 2019. Anderson will continue to serve on the board of directors. A memorial service was held on June 1 at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Eden Prairie for Harold Robert (Bob) Dreyer, 91, and his wife Joyce Marie Dreyer, 86. The service was followed by a celebration of life at the Bryant Regional Park pavilion in Eden Prairie. Bob passed away peacefully on Jan. 28, 2023, surrounded by family. Singletree Lane will temporarily close beginning on Thursday, June 8. According to the city, the closure comes as part of the city’s reconstruction project for the intersection of Prairie Center Drive and Singletree Lane. It is expected to last about one month and primarily impacts access to Life Time Eden Prairie Athletic, 755 Prairie Center Drive, and the immediate Singletree Lane area. Lucille Corrine Nyhammer, 99, of South Haven, Minnesota, passed away Thursday, May 25, in Orono.  Lucille was born in Minneapolis on Oct. 4, 1923, to Erik and Elma  (Nelson) Olson. She was baptized in Minneapolis in 1923 and confirmed in 1935 in Minneapolis. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1941, and was united in marriage on May 20, 1946, to Haakon Nyhammer in Excelsior. Eden Prairie High School has chosen Joseph “Joe” Perkl as its new director of student activities, effective July 1. The announcement was made in an email EPHS Principal Nate Gibbs sent to families on Friday afternoon. Perkl, who currently serves as the activities director in Jordan Public Schools since 2017, will replace Russ Reetz, who is leaving the school at the end of June to become principal at White Bear Lake Area High School. In 2019, the Eagles softball team lost its first game in the Section AAAA tournament to Minnetonka, leaving them one loss away from the end of their season. They went on to win six straight games, including back-to-back wins in the championship round over Shakopee to advance to their first State Tournament appearance since 2007. Eden Prairie High School (EPHS) seniors are wrapping up their high school careers with some impressive awards. National Merit Finalists Fourteen EPHS seniors have been named National Merit Finalists. Several of these students have been awarded scholarships through the National Merit Scholarship Program, and additional award offers may be made in June. The EPHS National Merit Finalists are: Coca-Cola Scholars Seniors Lucas Wagner and Mohit Agarwal have been named Coca-Cola Scholars. The gym floor at the Eden Prairie Community Center is currently being replaced. According to an update this week on the City of Eden Prairie website, line painting on the new flooring in the gym began Thursday and is scheduled to continue throughout the Memorial Day weekend.
