The City of Eden Prairie is now accepting nominations for the annual Sustainable Eden Prairie Award, which recognizes significant and innovative investments that contribute to the overall vitality and sustainability of the community. Eligible entries include property improvements and organized programming or initiatives. The deadline for nominations is 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15. Persons can nominate either themselves or others, with no residency requirement for the nominators. And, the same property or program can be nominated in multiple categories. With fewer than a third of Minnesota students achieving grade-level proficiency in literacy and math, one Reading Corps tutor, five Math Corps tutors, and two Early Learning Corps tutors are being sought to serve in Eden Prairie area schools beginning in August. As the school year begins and families face increased expenses, PROP Food Shelf is stocking up to provide essential support to the community. Located at 14700 Martin Drive in Eden Prairie, the nonprofit PROP has launched its September Stock Up campaign to assist families struggling to make ends meet. Eden Prairie police responded to a dog bite incident involving three people at about 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 16. The incident occurred at the top of the exit ramp from westbound Interstate 494 to Flying Cloud Drive. According to a city news release on Thursday, a vehicle was stopped at the red light where an adult man and woman were panhandling with a 2-year-old child. The Metropolitan Council has announced a one-day closure of West 70th Street on Wednesday, Aug. 16, at the rail crossing for systems work related to Metro Green Line Extension construction. Local business access is available through Shady Oak Road. Impacts to westbound traffic and the north sidewalk of Technology Drive are expected throughout the summer for work on the south side of the new SouthWest Station parking ramp being constructed adjacent to the existing ramp. SouthWest Transit will provide bus service to the 2023 Minnesota State Fair from Thursday to Sunday, Aug. 24 to 27, and again from Wednesday, Aug. 30, to Sunday, Sept. 3. There will be no service on Monday or Tuesday this year. The dates for the 2023 Minnesota State Fair are Thursday, Aug. 24, to Monday, Sept. 4.
