Yash Dagade, a Eden Prairie High School junior, has been named one of four finalists in the Regeneron International Science & Engineering Fair (ISEF).  Dagade presented his project, “WATT from VAWT: Design of a Novel Vertical Airborne Wind Turbine (VAWT) Clean Energy Farm,” at the 86th annual Minnesota State Science & Engineering Fair (SSEF) on March 24 at the St. Paul RiverCentre. The Regeneron ISEF award recognizes the top high school projects in Minnesota. It is the world’s largest pre-college science competition, where students worldwide showcase their research. John Thomas “Tom” Nordeen, 80, of Eden Prairie, beloved husband, father, and grandfather was suddenly taken into the arms of Jesus, his Savior, on March 20. Tom was born on April 23, 1942, in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. Preceded in death by parents Chester and Alcy Nordeen, in-laws Robert and Rachel Armstrong, brother-in-law Randy Armstrong of ALS, and niece Stacey Armstrong. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner on Friday released the cause of death for an 80-year-old man who was struck by a vehicle in Eden Prairie last month. John Thomas Nordeen, of Eden Prairie, died from multiple blunt force injuries, according to the Medical Examiner’s report. The manner of death was ruled an accident. Nordeen was struck by an eastbound vehicle at 7:08 a.m. March 20 while “walking against traffic” in the crosswalk on Highway 5 near Eden Prairie Road, according to the State Patrol. Michael Dean Bakken, 66, of Mound, formerly of Eden Prairie, passed away unexpectedly at home on March 28, 2023. Mike (known as “sto” to many) had a great passion for cooking and was excellent at it! He was fun-loving with a contagious personality that drew people to him, and a true kid at heart. Starting Monday, April 10, the eastbound off-ramp of Highway 212 that leads to Prairie Center Drive will be closed for up to three months. The closure is connected to the ongoing construction of the Metro Green Line Extension project. Eden Prairie officials announced on Tuesday that the closure will allow construction crews to replace the off-ramp concrete. Eden Prairie resident Gretchen Haynes captured stunning photos of the aftermath of a spring snowstorm that blanketed the city on April 1. The snowfall dumped 8.5 inches at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, making it no April Fool’s joke. Haynes took the photos at Staring Lake Park, where the heavy snowfall created a stunning scene. According to KARE 11, the snowstorm pushed the total 2022-23 snowfall in the Twin Cities to 89.7 inches, securing the title for the third-snowiest season on record. In 1983-84, the Twin Cities received its highest recorded snowfall of 98.6 inches.

Among the items on the Eden Prairie City Council’s meeting agenda on April 4 is the approval of safety improvements at the intersection of Prairie Center Drive and Singletree Lane, near Bachman’s and the Life Time Eden Prairie Athletic club.
