The Eden Prairie Police Department (EPPD) has received the FBI-LEEDA (Law Enforcement Executive Development Association) Trilogy Award given to law enforcement agencies whose command staff have completed training in supervision, command, and executive leadership. Eight EPPD supervisors have completed the series and others are in process, according to a press release. “Sending supervisors to the FBI-LEEDA courses is a way to invest in our staff and provide them with the tools they need to perform at the highest possible level,” the release said. The award was presented to the department Jan. 10 by Anne Kirkpatrick, an LEEDA instructor.

The Riley Purgatory Bluff Creek Watershed District (RPBCWD) is hosting a photography contest to celebrate the beautiful natural resources within the district and is seeking submissions from residents. According to a press release, the contest aims to celebrate the district’s lakes, streams, parks, recreation areas, wildlife, plants, and other outdoor features. Photos can be taken during any season and must be taken within the district’s boundaries in 2022 or 2023. One of the men involved in the Feb. 1, 2022, fatal shooting at the District 287 South Education Center in Richfield has been sentenced to three years in prison. Thirty-one Eden Prairie students were enrolled in programs at the center at that time. Not all were at the center that day, and those there were evacuated safely. Alfredo Rosario Solis, 20, was convicted of second-degree assault in December for the shooting that killed 15-year-old Jahmari Kei’Fee Rice and injured another student outside the center, according to a Star Tribune report. Christine Caroline Mulder, born June 27, 1976, passed on Dec. 20, 2022. James John Skranka, age 79, of Eden Prairie, died unexpectedly on Dec. 21, 2022, at his home. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dawn, mother, Helen, father, Albert, and sister, Helen Heitz. Lavern G. “Vern” Johnson, age 90, of Annandale, died Saturday, Dec. 24, at English Rose Suites in Edina. Vern was born Oct. 12, 1932, in Eagle Bend, Minnesota, to George and Florence (Carlson) Johnson. He grew up in Eagle Bend with his two brothers, Bob and Willy.
